Feature: Did You Know These Celebrities Love Their Omega Watch?
Omega is a watch brand with some incredible anecdotes and stories to tell. From the moon landings to the Olympics to Bond, the brand sells itself with its effortless charm. It makes sense, then, why so many celebrities from across film, sport and science have fallen in love with the Swiss watchmaker. Here we’re going to take a closer look at just five of these famous faces and their relationship with the brand.
Cindy Crawford
Not only is Cindy Crawford a hugely successful supermodel, she’s a self-professed Omega nerd too. Her watch of choice being the gold Aqua Terra or yellow-gold Ladymatic with black dial and diamonds. Representing Omega since 1995, Cindy is Omega’s longest-standing ambassador, fronting the brand even longer than George Clooney.
George Clooney
The world-famous actor has been a longstanding ambassador of Omega, so much so he joined the Swiss watchmaker to celebrate one of its biggest achievements in 2019—50 years since the first lunar landings. It was in 1969 when the world watched as Apollo 11 crew member, Buzz Aldrin, stood on the surface of the moon wearing his Speedmaster. It’s no wonder then that Mr Clooney has picked such a legendary timepiece as his watch of choice.
Michael Phelps
Michael Phelps is the greatest swimmer ever to grace the pool—he is also the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time, so it isn’t surprising that Omega snapped him up as a brand ambassador. His go-to watch is a Seamaster Planet Ocean, a fitting piece for someone who spends so much time in water. It is also self-winding, handy for a man whose arms slice through water at rapid speed.
Naomie Harris
Actor Naomie Harris took to New York to officially open Omega’s “Her Time” pop-up boutique in 2017. The boutique displayed Omega’s feminine Trésor collection, which was also modelled by ambassador, Kaia Gerber. Harris’ role as Moneypenny in the Bond franchise makes Omega a fitting choice for her as, well … we all know about the watchmaker’s longstanding relationship with the 007 franchise.
Thomas Stafford
The astronaut and former Chief of the Astronaut Office from 1969 to 1971 has graced a number of space missions including four NASA ones, as well as the first joint US and Soviet space mission, the Apollo-Souyuz Test Project. Stafford even presented Omega with its Silver Snoopy Award in 1970. The prize recognised Omega’s contributions to “the success of human space flight missions”, with Snoopy chosen for his knack of keeping things light-hearted, as well as acting as an onboard “watchdog” for astronauts.
