Feature: We’ve Selected The Most Iced-Out APs Right Now
There’s something about Audemars Piguet’s watches that invite embellishment of the sparkling kind. Maybe it’s AP's long association with glamour, or maybe it’s the size of its watches, with the Royal Oak known for taking up serious wrist space.
Whatever the reason, Audemars Piguet and bling is a marriage made in heaven. It’s a combination that has enticed A-list rappers, basketball superstars and Hollywood celebrities, whether they customise their timepieces after they’ve bought them or wear them as nature—or rather, the brand itself—intended.
We’ve delved into Audemars Piguet’s contemporary collection and compiled some of the brand’s most impressive jewel-encrusted models right now.
Royal Oak Snow Rainbow
This is watch that requires close inspection wearing a pair of heavy duty Ray-Bans due to its 18-carat frosted gold case and a bezel featuring 32 baguette-cut “rainbow-coloured” sapphires—all individually cut.
The Snow Rainbow may sound like a My Little Pony character but it's actually a watch
Add to this a rhodium-toned open-worked dial and golden double balance wheel mechanism, visible on whatever side of the watch you’re looking at, and you’ve got a bonafide head-turner. It’s a look-at-me luxury watch that was made for partying with high-rollers among the neon lights of Las Vegas.
Royal Oak Quartz Pink Gold
Released in 2017, this elegant Royal Oak with a uniquely gem-set look is defined by a wave-like pattern of diamonds that sweeps beyond the dial and bezel to the bracelet.
This quartz Royal Oak features diamonds scattered in an assymetric pattern
Audemars Piguet has a history of creating its own gem-setting techniques to compliment its watches and this is a spellbinding example, with the diamonds creating a striking continuity throughout the entire piece. This 33mm model is available in either 18-carat pink gold or 18-carat white gold and comes with a quartz movement.
Royal Oak Offshore Funky Colour Collection
The Royal Oak Offshore Diver ‘Funky Colours’ collection burst on to the scene in 2016, bringing a mesmerising five-colour palette to watch conventions that year. Obviously Offshores have long come in a wise spectrum of colour combinations but there’s something strikingly different about these ones, recalling confectionary stores and tropical fruit.
The aptly named Funky Colours collection includes this model with lime green dial
Strictly for the adventurous, these 37mm watches come with a diamond-set bezel, a stainless steel case and hard-wearing rubber strap.
Diamond Outrage
This extravagantly decadent cuff watch is indeed an outrageous piece of sparkling, wearable art, an amalgamation of the very best in fine jewellery and horology. It’s the third and final design in the trilogy of a one-of-a-kind series of timepieces from AP that includes 2015’s Diamond Punk and 2016’s Diamond Fury.
The sensational Diamond Outrage cuff watch is covered with more ice than Antarctica
The brand itself calls it a ‘magnetic fusion of spectacular spikes… an explosion of stalactites on the wrist,’ as well as a ‘sculptural, sensual force.’ Normally we’d scoff at such hyperbolic descriptions but in this case it’s absolutely true.
